The Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) was established under the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, 2005, by the Government of India to regulate and promote responsible coastal aquaculture practices across the country. The primary objective of the Authority is to ensure the sustainable development of coastal aquaculture while protecting and preserving the coastal environment and ecological balance.

CAA plays a vital role in monitoring and regulating aquaculture activities by establishing standards and guidelines for aquaculture operations, feed inputs, quality control systems, and food safety practices. The Authority is also empowered to regulate aquaculture inputs and implement certification systems, including standards for antibiotic-free aquaculture products.
